Biodiversity

Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli Regional Park is a coastal area overlooking the eastern part of the northern Tyrrhenian Sea. It is what remains of the planitial forest that once linked, with woods, swamps, lagoons and dunes, the mouth of the Magra River north to the marshes at the foot of the hills south of Livorno.

Nowadays, with over 230 sq km, it is the most comprehensive that can be found as natural and semi-natural planitial coastal ecosystem in Italy and about 10% of the protected areas of Tuscany (Italian website).
